Excellent deer and duck hunting!
Located off Highway 261 on the county line between Williamsburg and Clarendon Counties, this 754 acre tract offers whitetail deer, turkey and duck hunting at its lowcountry’s finest. It is located 10 miles from Kingstree, SC to the east and 14 miles from Manning, SC to the west. The northern property line is the black water Black River and to the south the property line is defined as the high water mark. An excellent road system crisscrosses the property leading to numerous spots for deer hunting stands and duck blinds. Pockmarked with open areas attractive to ducks for feeding and roosting the views on this tract are absolutely stunning.
A personal tour of this tract is a must to see and appreciate the beauty and historical significance of this swamp. Many do not know that South Carolina suffered some of the heaviest fighting during the Revolutionary War. This area in particular had its own heroes and legends in the war, none more revered than the Swamp Fox himself. Lt. Colonel Francis Marion. Marion earned the nickname “Swamp Fox” for his wily ability to traverse the woods and swamps in his guerilla attacks on the British and Loyalists. He traveled extensively through this area during his campaign for freedom from the British. It’s quite possible that he traveled through this very swamp while on his way from Kingstreee to Tearcoat Swamp in Clarendon County where he ambushed British Lt. Colonel Samuel Tynes in the middle of the night in 1980.
The swamp portion of this tract is in a conservation easement and there are 3 acres of high ground suitable for a small cabin. As you travel silently through the tree and moss shrouded access road on the property you can almost hear the muffled sounds of horses and soldiers gliding through the swampy waters in their fight for freedom.
